Friends old and new gathered in the newest and biggest permanent
aikido dojo in the UK, in Slough on 8th September. A good time was
had by all and £438 (approx $850) was raised. Organiser Quentin
Cooke Sensei (5th dan, ADL), who shared his down to earth approach
to ki exercises expressed the Aiki Extensions approach succinctly: "Aikido
is not just about the two hours a day on the mat, but the other 22
hours a day as well."
Host Sensei William Timms (5th dan IOA) who had
provided the impressively spacious venue and lunch free of charge,
taught clear body movement and strong technique. He is also
involved with corporate work using aikido. Frank Burlingham Sensei
(5th dan IOA/UKA) taught a 24 count jo kata and Piers Cooke (6th dan
ADL) began his session
with a
warm up inspired by Acao Harmonia's Jose Bueno. Returned Aiki Corps
volunteer Mark Walsh shared photos and stories from AE's
diverse projects that would benefit from the day. |
